Well, the next phase of dA's death spiral has arrived and there is, understandably, another mass exodus! For everyone leaving, here are the other places I post.

I'll stick around for a little while - I'm having difficulty coming to terms with leaving so much history behind. However, it's becoming difficult to tolerate dA's blatant stupidity, so I don't know how much longer I'll last.

Woah! I have been away preparing for a vacation and shit has really gone down, hasn't it? I will not be leaving DeviantART (yet) but if YOU are leaving, here's my Carrd for other places you can find me!

FEATURE!

Before I get started, I wanted to feature zhidkovv 's recent work, Tale of Iceberg the Icewing. Set within the world of Wings of Fire, the story takes place ~200 years after the events of the last book and follows a young Icewing named Iceberg. Author's synopsis:

"Iceberg always felt like he was different, as if he was destined for something bigger than his Icewing peasant life. When his musings are proven correct, he realizes that the world is a much colder place than his beloved snowy plains. Once he found himself in the violent torrent of events, turning back to his quiet, old life was no longer an option.

Will Iceberg overcome the threat? Or will he succumb to the dark like those before him?"

Although incomplete, I really enjoyed reading it and found myself wishing there was more. Maybe with some support, zhidkovv could consider continuing it ;) Either way, I recommend checking it out.

UPDATE

It's almost unbelievable (and quite embarrassing, actually) that my last journal post was in October. I remember I used to write a new journal almost every day! I don't know why I stopped doing that - maybe I feel like I'm boring now?

Lately, I have been incredibly busy, mostly due to work. I am fortunate enough that I can work from home but working for an online retailer is rough right now. Our workload has increased due to the general increase order volume, but has also increased due to the amount of fraud people are committing against online retailers right now.

I'm doing my best to still work on artistic stuff on the weekends but I am either too shy to post my fursuit experiments or don't have anything to post. I'm more active on Twitter if anyone wants to follow me (@IAmShinerai) but I plan to continue posting finished works here! Of course people have left dA over Eclipse but I'm here to stay.

I hope you have all been doing alright. The world is chaos right now. Please stay safe.

Anyone got any plans for Halloween, or doing Inktober? C: I'd like to hear about them! I had some struggles with my sleep schedule recently while my car was back in the shop but now that I have it back and I'm done with jury duty, my life is operating pretty normal.

Lately, I've been working on a painting of Di, and also some little crafty things, which I've been enjoying. I don't know that I'm particularly good at it, though. Have you made anything you're proud of recently?

Eclipse has been a sore spot for the community (as I'm sure all of you are aware) for some time now. What frustrated users the most (based on my observations) was the apparent lack of DeviantART staff attention on the community's voice. The comments section on Change Log submissions was once overflowing with negative sentiment and rants, but now is much less volatile.

Many of you don't want to (and that's fine) but I thought I would encourage everyone just once (and I promise I will never mention it again) to try Eclipse and submit your feedback. Eclipse will not be optional in the future; if you do not want to change platforms, contribute to what Eclipse grows into. I am not a fan of Eclipse myself, but there is an opportunity for end users to shape its development.

Staff is listening - the DeviantART team is making an obvious and concerted effort to consume user feedback, especially danlev and humblehills who are regularly acknowledging and responding to comments in a positive and supportive way, even if the commenter is sometimes rather rude (sorry). I recommend following team so you can see the Change Logs (for some reason, Hot Topics do not seem to appear in Eclipse), use the Feedback form (in the dropdown when hovering over your icon in the top right, or in the Help Center), and check out the Help Center for information on Eclipse and to vote on Feature Requests (right now there is one available for vote about advanced statistics): https://www.deviantartsupport.com/en/

Now that my PSA is over: I hope you're all well! Tonight I had a long evening of axe throwing and this Sunday I am leaving to Seattle. I'll be there all week for business, but I'll have a day to myself as well! I'll be sure to post pictures to my Twitter. I don't expect anyone to have read this far down but if you did and you live in the Seattle area, do you have any recommendations on what I should do/see?
