Next LiveStream on Jun 4

Journal Entry: Sun May 21, 2017, 1:20 PM
Hello everyone,

I hope you're having a great weekend! I wanted to write to let you know that I will not be streaming this weekend or next weekend. I have a vacation from 5/25 through 5/31 to Vegas, and I'm spending some time today preparing for the trip. I was going to stream anyway, just for a bit, but I seem to have strained or pulled a muscle (or muscles) in my neck a couple days ago and it is making it painful to do just about anything that involves looking down to to the left (especially sneezing). I'm surviving, but it's making me a bit irritable so I might not be great company.

I'll catch up with all of you on the first weekend in June. I'm going to be doing lots of drawing while I'm away so I can't wait to share new stuff!

Journal Entry: Fri May 19, 2017, 10:19 AM
Hi everyone,

I hope you are doing well! What's new with you? :)

I figured it's been a little while, so I could write a journal to let you all know that I am still alive. On the work front, things have been really rough lately. It seems like day after day, the obstacles become more and more insurmountable. But I know it means that once I'm finished with my project, I will be even more proud of myself. I received some good news yesterday that I'm not allowed to share, but I'll tell you about it as soon as I can! The tl;dr version is that I'm going to have some new responsibilities and this is very good for my career.

On the art front! I've been drawing some things, but I tend to not post them. I'm realizing that I think there are several reasons I don't post very often. Looking back at my old work, I used to post all sorts of garbage (the good kind). I'd post finished drawings, sketches, turds, etc., and this made my gallery a very busy place. When I became a bit popular, I think I felt more pressured to only post finished pieces. Even looking at my "sketches" folder, the pieces there are rather polished.

I really want my gallery to be a lively place again. I want to give you all more things to look at, and I want to share my ideas with you. I want to start posting unfinished works and ugly sketches like I used to - is this something you guys would be interested in?

In addition to this, I'm really interested to know what you guys would like to see in my gallery that either is not there much now or not there at all. I made a poll to get an idea of what you all would enjoy, so please feel free to drop by and leave your feedback.

Shinerai's Poll: I want to post more art. What do you want to see?

Thank you all for being a lovely bunch of people.

Art Exposure Meme Round 2!

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 23, 2017, 7:11 PM
Hello everyone! I got so many comments on the previous art exposure meme journal that I wanted to feature more of you. I went through the comments received after the first 10 and chose some of my favorites. If you didn't get picked, please don't feel bad! No hard feelings here. I may or may not make another journal like this in the future. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this lovely art created by your caring peers. For those of you featured here, don't forget to make an exposure meme journal yourself! The more the merrier! :) You don't really need to feature me. I had required that on the last one just because it was in the instructions I pasted from the tag but I don't feel right asking for that so don't feel obligated. Original entry:

Art Exposure Meme (finished)!

1. :iconbolthound:
I can see you've been putting a lot of work into developing backgrounds lately and I just love what you've been doing. Scenes are so your thing! Please make more comics ;u;

2. :iconsucittarsucivron:
The first thing I noticed right off the bat is how varied your work is. You show skill in digital, traditional, and in all sorts of subjects. This is something really tough for an artist to achieve, so mad props!

3. :iconsketchingdragon:
It's always a pleasure to see your work! I really enjoy that you work in such a variety of mediums - my favorite is probably your leather work.

4. :iconstitchy-face:
Your painterly style has really developed into something refined and gorgeous as of late! I really enjoy your characters and especially your scenes.

6. :iconnecrosisdemon:
I've always loved Meph's design! I wish I could draw dude anatomy like you ;u; Your character designs are so intrigate but well thought out and harmonious.

7. :iconpenny-dragon:
I really enjoyed looking through your gallery! A lot of your work has a wonderful, loose feel to it but I was pleasantly surprised to find that you can make some deliciously smooth refined work as well! Keep up the awesome job.

8. :iconbrittanywillows:
You've got a lot of great work! One of the things I noticed is that you are really good at including a lot of really dark, bold, powerful colors without losing the details of the image. On top of that, you have some of the most interesting characters I've seen recently!

9. :iconaridax:
The only disappointment in your gallery is how few artwork you have posted there! I really enjoy how the bright colors you use in your works brings me into the environment even if there isn't a drawn background. Awesome!

10. :iconfoxiful:
My favorite thing about your work is the glow it always has! Your soft, saturated colors tend to have this really nice glow that makes everything seem soft and happy. Because of that, your work is really calming to look at!

Art Exposure Meme (finished)!

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 28, 2017, 6:01 PM

Hey guys. I had a great time looking through your work and I've featured the first 10 commenters here! I hope you all enjoy my choices and go on to spread more beautiful artwork through your art exposure memes. If you commented but aren't featured here, do not fear! Because so many of you commented, I'm going to make another journal to feature 10 more in the future. I am not going to go in order and will be a bit more selective on who I feature. I'm sorry, but I just can't do everyone! Regardless, I hope you all enjoy.

Hi everyone! To participate in this meme, comment on my journal! For the first ten, I will put your avatar in this journal as well as the three deviations from your gallery that I like most!

If you are featured in this journal, you have to submit a journal like this one and do the same thing. The idea here is not to get a free feature, but to spread art around for everyone.

Also, I'm changing the meme a tiny bit! I may feature 15 people or even 20 (in 2 journals?). I feel like these spots might go fast and I want lots of people to have the opportunity for their art to be shared. If you make the list, you do not have to increase the number up from 10 on your own meme c:

1. :iconkintsy: (reposted from you!)
Honestly, I'm just glad to see that you've returned to DeviantART! I always did enjoy your work and considered Syrpolis's design to be a fine example of elegance in simplicity. I'll select the following three because the boogerpic isn't available P:

2. :iconpalehok:
I have to admit I have a reference sheet bias so I was really excited that I had a lot of things to favorite in your gallery. I enjoy the bold color palettes on your characters and I think crisp lineart and anatomy are your strengths.

3. :icontellastar:
Faved your refs! I really like the bright colors in your works and your more recent backgrounds. Lately you've been accomplishing some really nice atmosphere!

One thing that really stood out to me about your work is your great use of color. Even your small pieces have a very harmonious and pleasing palette. I find your smooth blending really soothing.

5. :iconradicalstriker:
Faved your refs! I think one of the most challenging pieces of anatomy to learn and understand is the bird wing. I really think you have done an impressive job of studying these wings because the overall shapes and the actual feather overlays are very elegant and accurate.
Light Mantle by RadicalStriker  Salutation to Galiano by RadicalStriker  Lucille and Soot by RadicalStriker

6. :iconzambiemaster:
I believe that technical application has always been one of your strengths but lately you have really started improving in anatomy by leaps and bounds. Keep it up!

7. :iconxthedragonrebornx:
Oh man your gallery was a treasure trove for references - my collection is so much bigger now ;u; I really like your ultra smooth, thick lineart. It's nice and bold without making the picture seem to heavy, and I think it really accents your characters who have unique scale designs.

8. :iconstarsealer:
You have so many unique and colorful characters! I really enjoy the whimsical feel I get from your work; it's so bright and cheerful.

9. :iconrip-tooth:
I've been to your gallery before and I never get tired of these beautiful Frigate Chasers that you draw! You are so creative with these designs and I could favorite the refs forever.

10. :icontytoquetra:
Tyto! I really enjoy your unique and creative character desgisns. I think one of your best strengths is creating natural and fluid pose! I also really like your wonderful environment/BG and lighting! Really your work is lovely. It was difficult to choose just three but I'll settle on these.

Sigh (another update!)

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 25, 2017, 7:31 PM

Hi guys. I'm sorry I didn't update sooner! I have some really good news to share today about Teeny. I had a scare during Teeny's shed after the vet put glue on her incision. Because the glue was over the inside of the incision, it pulled the scabs out and the wound was gaping. Chris and I put a band-aid on it and made sure to give her antibiotics so that she wouldn't get an infection. I hope you like these photos.

She shed again on Monday and, unfortunately, the wound didn't really close much. It does, however, look really, really good. The vet is confident it'll fill in with scar tissue soon and she doesn't need to wear her band-aid or take her antibiotics anymore. She did pull out the bottom suture with her teeth but the vet said that was okay. I'm really excited at how great this is - my tiny baby has survived a major abdominal surgery and is just thriving. Thank you everyone for cheering me and supporting me through this whole thing. I really appreciate you.

I said the last update was the final update because Teeny's surgery site was looking so good! When I took her in on Saturday, it looked ready for the stitches to come out. Much to our surprise, the incision started to re-open in a couple of places. Back to worrying. Everyone at the clinic is shrugging this off as no big deal so I'm trying to as well. It has glue on it at the moment, but I'm worried about her next shed. I'm hoping it's a few weeks out so this has time to do.. whatever. I'll post more pictures if they're interesting enough.

Hi everyone! You all have been with me this whole journal and I think I'll make this the final update. Teeny saw the vet again and they said that her suture site is looking great. It has some retained shed on it but they said that's no big deal and they can help clean it up later when the sutures are removed. Teeny is eating (a bit) and pooping, and they said they're surprised she is so bright and active less than a week after surgery! The next day, they called to inform me that the culture test came back for the ruptured abscess and it was sterile. Teeny gets her stitches out this Saturday and can stop her antibiotics next Wednesday. She'll get to go back into her normal cage shortly after.

Thank you everyone for your wellwishes and support during my time of worry. You all really helped comfort me ;u; Without you, I'd probably have way more stress acne than I do now, hahaha! Maybe I will post a picture of Teeny all bright and colorful when she is fully healed! For now, you can see a picture of her sutures. Even though it seems small, keep in mind that this is a major abdominal surgery and it's no small feat that she survived! I'm so happy.

I reversed the order of updates in this journal so it isn't necessary to scroll to the bottom to get to the new information. Not sure why I didn't think of that before. Anyway, I wanted to thank you all for the kind words, the thoughts, and the support. I know I'm not super active (I'm trying to get better!) so your responses really surprised and cheered me ;u;

Teeny had surgery this morning and the good news is that she survived. After getting in there, it turns out that there actually wasn't a problem with Teeny's GI tract; the vet said it looked pretty normal. The real problem is that teeny had a HUGE abscess on each ovary that I suppose just got so big it was squishing her stomach and making her not hungry. The vet spayed her but her odds of survival are still not 100% because one of the abscesses had started to rupture. They flushed Teeny's abdominal cavity as best they could and the rest is just hoping. This next week will be critical. Thank you, everyone, for staying with me. I'll update later with a new photo if I can get one.

A lot has actually happened since the last update, but I haven't been on too much (outside of Sunday's LiveStream) to write about it. Teeny's surgery was originally scheduled for Monday, Jan 30, but when they did an intestinal parasite test on a stool sample I brought in, they found she had tons of pinworms (yes, she's been treated for pinworms already in the past). The vet thought that maybe there were so many pinworms, it was causing the blockage in her GI tract. Due to the risk associated with surgery, we postponed it to wait for the results of her pinworm treatment, in hopes that simply killing off the parasites would help clear everything out. Unfortunately, pinworm treatment takes at least 3 weeks.

The following Tuesday, Feb 7, Teeny stopped eating. This became a huge concern because that would indicate that maybe her GI tract was fully blocked now (whereas she was making tiny poops earlier) and she just doesn't want to eat because she is full full full. The vet was able to reschedule surgery but not until this Wednesday, Feb 15. She said that they could do an emergency surgery if Teeny went downhill (lethargy, etc.) but they wanted to do it on Wednesday because they blocked off a nice big chunk of time where they could do the surgery without too many other things going on and then they could monitor her recovery closely throughout the day.

It's been a bit of a roller coaster because while waiting for the surgery, Teeny has started to eat a tiny bit again. She's still pretty alert and energetic (especially when it comes to fighting against taking her medicine) and she made a poop this Saturday. Because of all this, it's easy to want to wait but she's been in this condition for a while now. I'm going to take her in for surgery on Wednesday, but I'm extremely worried. :( If you all don't mind keeping her in your thoughts and prayers, I'd really appreciate it.

Teeny got her ultrasound today. One thing that I learned recently is that ultrasound is a frequency of sound higher than human hearing. Ultrasonography is the technique of using ultrasound to create images of inside the body. And a sonogram is the image result of ultrasonography.

We are still waiting to see if we can get a second opinion on the results of the ultrasound but Teeny's liver looks pretty normal to the vet so we may be able to allay the previous concern of liver disease. With liver disease out of the way, we need to focus on clearing Teeny's digestive tract. Unfortunately, the ultrasound indicated that we're looking at a full blockage. Because of that, it's very slim that just laxative is going to do anything for her (she hasn't pooped since last Sunday) and, honestly, surgery is about the only option.

Regretfully, there is high risk with surgery as Teeny is very, very small. Unfortunately, there just isn't any other option. I'm waiting to see when we will schedule the surgery.

Pictured below: Teeny was not very cooperative with the ultrasound so the vet calmed her down with basically the equivalent of valium. Teeny is having a great time.

Teeny got her new x-rays today and they have already been reviewed by the radiologist - no change from Tuesday. At this point, he is suggesting we need to consider that teeny may have liver disease. Whether it has to do with her stomach condition is unknown. Unfortunately, she hasn't pooped yet.

We are just going to continue giving her the medicine, give her a daily warm water bath, and give her some Carnivore Care to make sure she is getting a little bit of nutrients, but in a form that isn't offensive to her stomach. She is going to the vet for an ultrasound of her liver on Monday.

Below is today's x-ray (there should not be any white blobs in her stomach), but she enjoys the bath.

Original Post

I was originally going to post a different journal entry, but lots of things have been happening recently. This week so far has been a bit crappy. There is some nervousness at work due to lay-offs. We know they are happening but there is not much news at the moment so we are not sure how it is going to impact our line of business or if people we work with (or for) are going to go away. Fingers crossed!

The big news is that Teeny is sick again. I'm feeling really guilty because I feel as though I should have noticed sooner that there was an issue. I've been so busy with work throughout November and December that I did not spend a lot of time handling the geckos. Teeny's attitude has not changed very much - she is still active and alert. However, she is fatter than usual.

I took her to the vet yesterday and we took some x-rays and sent them to the radiologist. I heard today that there is a partial blockage in her stomach consisting of some material and a lot of fluid. Because of this, her stomach is severely distended and her liver is swollen. She's been prescribed a detoxifying laxative that we're hoping will help push the blockage through her system as well as soothe her liver. The vet says that they've had good results with this particular medicine in the past, but she did admit the radiologist's diagnosis of "severe" was not very good and we can't really discuss odds of survival at the moment.

Teeny has to go for some new x-rays tomorrow so the radiologist can see if there is any change from Tuesday (since she was fed on Monday). She started her medicine today and will continue to receive it for 5 days.

I'm doing everything I can but, honestly, I'm not certain how it's going to turn out.

I'm Alive!

Hello all!

I hope you are well. I don't know how to do status updates so I wanted to use this journal to thank everyone who attended my live stream yesterday. I left very abruptly last night because a tornado warning was issued for my area and I needed to take shelter. I wanted all of you to know that I am safe.

Because I didn't stay long enough to post a WIP for those of you there at the end, here is where we left off. [LINK]. I need to change my streaming deviation back to Offline when I get off work and, as usual, I will be back next Sunday.

On a random note, today is my 6 year anniversary with Ryoseth-CP :) Tonight, we are going to eat delicious and expensive sushi.

Have a great week, everyone!

So many things! And, Happy Holidays!

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 27, 2016, 7:21 PM
Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing well! I am ashamed to see that my last journal was made in the summer. I suppose the reason I haven't posted so frequently is that the only news I have is about work. I try to avoid talking about work because not too many people are particularly interested in hearing about boring office nonsense. There are a couple things that I think are worth mentioning as I look back on this year:
¤ I got to help in the creation of the first HoloLens customer support team and we even lent two agents from our team to build it. Although my assistance was minor (building process matrices), it was a pleasure to participate and was overall rewarding.

¤ I also participated in the conceptualization and implementation of a new customer service model that changes the way physical product escalations are handled worldwide for Online Store. Although I wasn't running the project, I did help by creating the process matrices, building the training deck, and facilitating training to several of our sites around the world. The project is still in its infancy but it has great potential to improve the overall customer experience with regard to escalations and it is already yielding positive results. I'm glad to be involved in the project.

Okay, so I guess those are the only two really big things I've participated in this year. My normal role is to simply run the team. It has been especially challenging recently as we entered a new organization that is not as experienced with our line of business as the previous one. Because of this, it was more difficult to prepare for holiday season and, therefore, I have been working a great deal of overtime this winter to stay caught up. That's why you haven't seen me around terribly much lately. I really miss the community and am ever thankful for those of you that come to my Sunday art streams and for my friends who support me on Skype even though I haven't been too talkative recently.

As for Christmas!
I hope everyone had a great holiday - whichever you celebrate. Mine was pretty low-key. I ate lunch with my parents and grandparents. Afterward, we went by my parents' house, exchanged a few gifts, and watched Game of Thrones. I got some sweet tee shirts and some stationery but I think my favorite gift may be this pendulum clock we got that plays Westminster quarters.

Now that the year is almost over, how has yours been? Are you satisfied with what you've done? Do you have any goals for next year? Did you get or give some swell gifts or just spend quality time with family? I'd like to hear all about it.

Things! Features! And LiveStream Tomorrow!

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 6, 2016, 2:40 PM
Wait, that's what my last journal was named? Shoot.

Hi guys! What's new? I've been doing my very best to draw every day but I ran into a snag last week because I straight-up didn't get much sleep. I guess it's a long story but the gist of it is that I freaked out for basically (almost) no reason and got very concerned about my gecko, Teeny. It seems that staying up until 5am and waking up at 8am last Saturday threw off my sleep schedule for the entire week. As such, I just didn't have the energy to draw. But my sleep schedule is back to normal so I'm feeling great! And the good news is that it seems that Teeny just has pinworms, which she is being treated for right now. We're keeping an eye on her pooping since the x-ray seemed to indicate non-food material in her digestive system, but I think it will be ok. . .

There isn't a whole lot else going on in my world, so I'll get onto. . .

Things! Features! And LiveStream Tomorrow!

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 15, 2016, 8:01 PM

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well! I apologize for not streaming last weekend - I was having fun  reinstalling my operating system again (yeah, I know. Don't ask). I missed you guys and am looking forward to having your company while I work this weekend on one of the many things I've been working on forever and need to finish. I intend to stream some time tomorrow afternoon (just for a little while) and again on Sunday.

I was also fantasizing recently about redoing my front page and Journal CSS (that's why I haven't been using any recently) and am excited to find time to work on that. . . eventually. In the meantime, I thought it would be nice to feature some lovely art. I hope you enjoy!

Hidden gems

Beautiful works of art by deviants that do not have the exposure they deserve.

Holy cow, this past month or two have been really busy for me! I've thought multiple times "man I gotta make a journal so I can tell those folks I love" but I was always either unavailable or just plain tired. Even though most of the things have already happened, I think it's okay to still write a journal about it because it was pretty fun!

Crazy work things!

I know I talk about work all the time and by "talk about it", I mostly just say "wow work is busy!" I realize this is probably boring but I'm afraid that talking in depth about sitting in a cubicle and typing a lot might actually be more boring. I still feel obligated to mention it because it occupies most of my life at the moment.

Anyway, work hasn't particularly changed a lot, but it has been very taxing for me because we are stuck in this position where we have just enough people to get things done but not enough people to actually improve the business, if that makes sense. This is probably fine for agents but as manager, it's tough for me to have to push urgent projects back all the time. We aren't able to hire more people at the moment so I'm trying very hard to become more efficient and manage my time more precisely so I can squeeze these projects through and make my deliverables. I've even thought about working at home... hhhh. Avoiding that thought for now.

Sick Lizard!

One serious stress point for me last month was that one of my geckos (Teeny) got sick. You can see a [gigantic, sorry] picture here, if you like. I had taken everyone into the vet for their yearly checkups over the course of May and Teeny's tests came back that she had pinworms. Pinworms (an intestinal parasite) can be a bit of a nuisance but in Leopard Geckos are usually neither a big deal nor hard to get rid of. I still had the medicine from when Sprinkles had pinworms and the vet said I could give it to Teeny.

Well, Teeny was so interested in what the medicine was, I just let her lick it off the syringe. Except she apparently decided to breathe instead of swallow it and it got all up in her lungs. She couldn't breathe very well and wasn't coughing it back up (it's a bit thick). I took her to the vet and they decided to treat her as though she had a respiratory infection - she needed to get 2 injections every 3 days; one anti-inflammatory and one antibiotic. I wasn't sure if she'd get better. I was so depressed that I stopped exercising after work and would just lay face down on the ground in front of her cage for a few hours instead. I was even more scared because her last injection was literally the day before my vacation and I didn't want to go if she wasn't going to be well but I had already bought my plane tickets...

She didn't show any signs of improvement for like three weeks and then suddenly BAM she got better really fast. She was looking so good the day before vacation that the vet didn't even think she needed another x-ray to check. Now that I'm back from vacation, she's still recovering from stress but doing well physically. I'm very happy although short about $900 :c

Visitors and Vacation!

The weekend before vacation, Tokenekie happened to be in Texas so he made the trip up to hang out for a day! It was really fun. He got us into Over the Garden Wall, which we hadn't watched previously and now we've seen completely two times. Really, it's a good show and a rewarding rewatch. We also saw Finding Dory which, if you haven't seen it, is pretty good.

But, Vacation! I had barely any time to prepare for it. I had to buy clothes at the last minute and also forgot to tell AguaRush11 that I was going to be in her area :c. We spent about 5 days up in Minnesota. We did archery, visited Minnehaha Park, ate at some quaint restaurants, and took a road trip to Wisconsin to attend a wedding (that's what I had to buy clothes for).

Other things!

Okay! To sum it all up, I'm doing well. I hope you are all doing well too! Starting tomorrow, I'll be back to streaming on Saturdays. Now that my boyfriend's work schedule has changed to give him Saturday's off, I may begin streaming on Sundays instead so I don't have to share our crappy internet with him. Not sure about it, though.

Last, here is a meme thing that I was tagged on by Jz113 who might not have expected me to actually do it. It's super late so my cognitive ability is very limited, but here goes.

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4
The closest book to me contains wallpaper samples (you know the kind of book) and it looks like the first 26 pages are missing. Oops.

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What can you reach?
My computer.
My water bottle.
My tablet.
Ugh the worst time to have a super tidy room.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Samurai Jack

4. Without looking guess what time it is?

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?
1:05am (lol)

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
Chris playing Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS
Drunk History

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
8:30pm, going to get Chinese since I worked overtime today and didn't feel like cooking.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at?
My new bed sheets. I can't believe my boyfriend chose this awful color.

9. What are you wearing?
A black "bad ass coffee" tee and black shorts.

10. Did you dream last night?
Yes. Unfortunately, I'm a professional dream forgetter, so I can't tell you anything about it.

11. When did you last laugh?
Teeny has this dot of something stuck on the white paper towels that line the bottom of her cage. I watched her for about 5 minutes keep stalking it and attacking it. I can't feed her any more though because she is gigantic.

12. What are on the walls you are in?
Nothing (yeah, lame I know). Maybe this book of wallpaper samples is here for a reason. Destiny...

13. Seen anything weird lately?
No... but for some reason, I can't remember anything I did outside of work recently?

14. What do you think of this quiz?
I haven't stopped filling it out yet so it isn't a complete bust.

15. What was the last film you saw?
Wet Hot American Summer (enh)

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?
Good internet

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know?
I did not have short hair at any point in my life until I was 18

Have you ever been so excited about something that you needed to tell someone? And then when you're finished telling someone, if someone else asks you why you're so excited, you're not motivated to tell the story again? I think that's my issue with writing journals. Something cool or interesting (or not) happens and I go "I need to write a journal about that!" and then I have plenty of time to think about what I'm going to write. But once I get home, I don't feel like telling anyone about it anymore.

So hopefully now that I've identified the issue, I'll get better about it. But since my most recent journal is called "New Year!" I guess a lot has happened since I last mentioned anything.

But before I get started! I'm sorry that I am not streaming today even though I told many of you that I would be. At the time, I did not have any plans for this weekend, but my parents initiated the short notice planning for Mother's day. As such, I won't be streaming again until next week.

As for new things with me! now that I think about it, maybe there really aren't too many new things! Work is going well. It has been quite busy, but I've been taking my sketchbook to see if I'll eventually have time to draw on break. Outside of work, I try to exercise every day so I can get healthy! And, as of last weekend, I'm growing plants on my balcony and feeding birds! Some of the plants I'm growing include culinary herbs and I want to start growing some peppers and squashes soon.

In my free time, I've been playing Rocket League and Dark Souls 3. I'm also trying to draw more and stream every Saturday!

Well, that's about it for me. What's new with you guys?

New Year!

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 6, 2016, 8:27 PM

Shin's Journal

Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. As I always do, I have basically missed all of the action that has been going on lately. Christmas and New Year have already passed and It's 2016 now, holy crap. It happened so fast, I didn't even share my address like I said I would :( I opened this journal thinking I was going to have a lot to talk about but now I'm not feeling so certain!

Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating whatever holiday you do (or not, if you chose not to). For Christmas, I had a simple meal with my boyfriend and parents and we watched the Walking Dead, which they have never seen before and are now hooked on. Chris and I had put it down for a while but I guess we were motivated to pick it back up. I also got the opportunity to spend a day hanging out with a friend from high school which was very nice and we got to do such nostalgic things such as Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (good times).

For New Years, I'll be honest and say I was in bed by 10. Even though volume is decreasing at work, I have still been working M-F 8am-8pm, which has been very tiring for me. Since it has been getting a bit slower, I tried working 9am-6pm the other day and that was an awful idea >>

Anyway, long story-short, I'm working very hard and I promise I will be active again when work calms down! I am very excited to be drawing my characters again and hope to work on a reference sheet for either Ardrius or Nailmus next. Which character would you prefer to see first?

In addition to becoming more active at the end of January, I'll be working out too! I've been gaining a bit of weight and have started swimming again (but obviously this has been put on hold) and am excited to get back into shape. Once I'm back in shape I will feel comfortable working on my. . . COSTUME! Which I have decided to be of Shin. Of course doing all these things mean I will have to be very disciplined with my free time. However, I'm hoping to accomplish these things successfully and it gives me something to look forward to this year.

Did any of you do anything super exciting for New Year? Did you get something you always wanted for Christmahanuquanzaka?

I'm alive! TILT Fund-Me Campaign!

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 18, 2015, 10:19 AM

Shin's Journal

Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well! It has been quite some time since any of you have heard from me, so I thought I'd write a little ol' journal blog to let you know how things are going. I'll try to keep it short, though!

I'm sorry that I haven't been too active recently. For some reason, right after I finished my Shin ref, my motivation for art was just completely drained. I'm not sure if it's that I was burnt out or had art block, but I did watch a lot of anime. Now that I feel like doodling again, work has been off the chain. Thanks to our launches this year at MS and black Friday, volume is through the roof and I've been working 12 hour shifts for weeks. I probably will be working like this until at least mid January. I will try my best to draw at least something but please bear with me as sometimes I am just so exhausted, I go to bed once I get home, haha!

I hope all of you have some great plans for the holidays. Mine will be very simple; a quiet Christmas with my parents. I want to let you guys know of my new (ish) address in case anyone intends to send me something, not that you have to! n_n I'll include the address in my next journal entry, or you can note me for it because I want to focus on the below.

My coworkers have started a Tilt campaign to help fund a Christmas gift to one of our peers.

The recipient of the gift works for me; his name is Ben "Chuck" Norris and he is a great guy. Very friendly, hard working, and honest. He currently does not have a computer at all and has been wanting one for years so he could get into producing video/music. His best friend (also works for me) created this Tilt because he wants to get Chuck Norris a PC but can't afford a great one on his own.

I know that none of you know these people and please trust me when I say absolutely you do not need to feel obligated to donate. But they really are wonderful people and Chuck Norris has no idea we are doing this. He would be completely floored if presented with a PC for Christmas.

The target is set at $1,000, but anything additional will be spent on getting Chuck Norris an even better PC (maybe even a Surface Book). If anyone could donate even a dollar or two, it would help out in the long run. If you wish, you can donate anonymously. The link to the Tilt is below if you want to check it out.…

GES Summer Picnic 2015

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 15, 2015, 10:22 PM

Shin's Journal

The last journal I posted was a pretty depressing one, so I'm glad to replace it and tell you guys a story about last Thursday which was the most awesome day in recent history, as opposed to the previous Tuesday, the worst day in recent history (which you read about).

Actually, last Thursday began with me walking out to drive to work in the morning and noticing that my car was leaning. We all know what that means - a flat tire. I must have gotten this thing while I was driving around in the ghetto the day prior in order to find the Dallas county tax office. I seriously bought these brand new tires not two months ago - I'll never miss the deadline for online vehicle registration ever again. Anyway, I didn't feel like dealing with this, so I simply drove Ryoseth-CP's car to work as he had the day off to recover from wisdom teeth extraction.

As it turns out, a director of Xbox is in town visiting the Xbox teams at our location and Thursday was the official 2015 picnic event! And my team was invited. I have to say, this is my very first corporate picnic event and I seriously had a blast. People said words and free food was had. Someone wore a dragon costume.

In addition to the free food (why the heck did I put mayo on my hot dog?), we got to play some games (news flash: I'm awful at cornhole), and dress up like idiots for a photo booth (which I will not be sharing the results of). There was also a snow-cone truck that would hand you ice and you could squeeze your own flavors! Turns out that I'm the only person too dumb for this, so the lady came out and made mine for me. I got sour blueberry, pineapple, and pickle juice. Yep, it was awesome.

People shot hoops. People putted. People ate crazy snow cones. People played [non]beer pong.

Then there was a raffle! There were some pretty fun prizes from the company store (and other places) involved. I got two tickets to put in and Xbox gave me a ticket to put in for Ryoseth-CP since he was out. WELL, he won a $50 GameStop gift card, what the heck!

After the raffle is the best part - the hot pepper eating contest! Me and about 7 dudes faced off to see who could eat 5 whole, fresh serrano peppers the fastest. Yeah, I won. Even though all of my bodily fluids tried to escape through my face after eating the peppers, it was still very exciting and I felt awesome. Then I drank lots of milk.

Once the hot pepper challenge was finished, we took the GES Summer Event sign outside and took a big ol' picture. I went to my desk and resumed working after the photo was taken - something I really regret. Not only did I forget to say bye to the director before leaving, but I missed BINGO. One of my coworkers won a smartphone projector from bingo, which seems really awesome.

Anyway, it was a pretty fun day. I have some doofy photos of it below, if you want to see. Thanks for reading! Have you ever had a fun event or won a contest like this? Tell me about it!

Murphy is Laughing at Me

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 1, 2015, 6:16 PM

Shin's Journal

Today was the most awful day in recent history. But I never blog about anything and I need to get better, so I'll tell you about my day for the sake of entertainment.

Today, I had a doctor appointment and since my doctor is about 40 miles away, I took the entire day off. I thought this would be a good time to go to the DMV so I looked up directions on Google maps before leaving. And then it wasn't there? So I looked at the city signs that said "Municipal Complex" and followed them but then they disappeared? Then I asked Cortana for directions and she led me to a sushi restaurant? Regardless, I drove around for 1.5 hours looking for the DMV to no avail.

I decided to drop by MS since that's the only place I can go to an ATM, get water, go to the bathroom, get lunch, and still make it to my appointment on time. I got to the doctor's office at 1:55pm for my 2:45pm appointment, but they didn't see me until 3:45pm because they were a behind after spending an unexpected amount of time with a previous patient.

Finally, I leave the doctor's office to go home and ask Ryoseth-CP to get us ice cream sandwiches - this day couldn't get shittier. Except, about 5 miles from home, my car breaks down. and leaves me on the side of the road. And since I had been using my phone so heavily for directions, it was dead.

Yay! At least this means that tomorrow is, by default, a better day :D. Also, I drew this while waiting at the clinic so I guess today wasn't completely wasted.

Wow I Missed a Lot While I wasn't Paying Attention

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 30, 2015, 10:12 PM

Shin's Journal

Hello, everyone! My last journal entry was for DeviantART's 15th birthday. I said something about posting a blog entry soon after that but it appears that I didn't! I seem to have missed that "core" outrage though.

I am pleased to say that since I've posted that journal entry, I finished my very last piece of owed artwork: my half of an ACEO trade with KiRAWRa (My Intuition) I am very excited about this; it's not that I don't love working on art for you guys (because I do), but I don't really remember the last time I truly didn't have any owed work on my plate. If I owe you art, I am under the impression that I don't so please note me

I'm trying to clean up my online profiles too. I'll be managing my Tumblr accounts properly now if you guys would like to follow me there. My tumblr handles are Shinerai (for misc art) and AbysmalOrange (for personal art). When I made that account, I actually didn't realize that "Abysmal" had a bad connotation - that it meant something negative. I guess what I really meant was "abyssal" to describe something endless and deep. What do you guys think of me changing my name to AbyssalOrange?

In other news, as you can see, I've created a new journal CSS! I wasn't quite satisfied with the previous CSS but anyone who has been watching me long enough knows I'm a bit fickle when it comes to my journal skin. Maybe I'll settle on one eventually, but I don't see it happening any time soon. This one features that adorable picture I just finished (Path of Ruin) and a surprisingly simple journal layout. I was intending to make it a little more graphically complicated but, ah, here it is! Thank you to VolVokun, yamilink, and Pahul for looking at my progress snapshots and providing your suggestions!

None of the navigation buttons work currently - I need to fix them but I'll have to do that later! that's about all that's new with me. What's been going on with you guys? Anything new and/or exciting?

DeviantARTist Questionnaire

shin's bowl

Note: Apparently dA inserts this giant empty space in my journal if you get here from your message center. Just refresh and it'll load properly. Not sure what causes that. . .

Filling this out because why not! I will be writing a new blog entry tomorrow. Also, I'll be livestreaming all day tomorrow so make sure to look out for my LiveStream deviation!

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
    11 Years

  2. What does your username mean?
It doesn't mean anything. I think I wrote about this previously but I just can't find where it is! In middle school, I was quite the weaboo. Suffice to say, I created this username simply because the katakana for it look nice together. Shinerai was an actual (female) character in some RP briefly but her actual presence was negligible. I just happen to make this account right when it was on my mind.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Logical, Tenacious, Positive

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    Left handed

  5. What was your first deviation?
Oh my, I'm going to dig this thing out of storage just for you. It's not my very first, but it's the first one still recorded in my gallery on dA. [LINK]

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
This is an interesting question. I think I'm most skilled in digital art, but I really love to draw in pencil.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
I'm not sure how to answer this - I don't really categorize styles. I'd really like to have a more fluid and more harmonious style.

  8. What was your first favourite?
    Sezzeh Naga Pose

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Digital fantasy realism/painterly style. I made that up, but you get the idea.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
This is the most difficult question ever because I like so many artists for so many different reasons - some for their art, some for their friendliness. Sorry, but I've got to decline picking one favorite artist. I did list some of my favorite artists in my previous journal though.
Anivi, sandara, Atenebris, REYKAT, shilin, shirotsuki, IrisDesert, loish, RHADS, yuumei, janaschi, apeldille, Leundra,

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Again too many choices. yamilink, Syvaender, kilara, SashaWren or AguaRush11

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
He's sitting next to me! Met my wonderful boyfriend of 5 years, Ryoseth-CP on dA.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
My good ol trusty tableto and potato shop.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
The internet in a livestream with wonderful watchers and friends to keep me company and make me smile.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
11 years makes it hard to pick one out, sorry! There are plenty of good ones though, especially times in the ShinDen.

I don't know why this < /p> is here - looks like it's time to redo my journal skin to get rid of the glitches dA makes with it.

Things! And Stuff! Meme!

Note: Apparently dA inserts this giant empty space in my journal if you get here from your message center. Just refresh and it'll load properly. Not sure what causes that. . .

Hi, everybody! I hope you are all doing well - please do tell me how you're doing. Is there anything new in your world? I swear, this time my absence has been because of the move! On 6/20, Chris and I got the keys to our new apartment and we officially moved out of our old apartment on 7/10. Then we had an awful time living without internet for two weeks ("The Struggle"). Just basic channels on TV that we catch with our wall-tenna. 70s game shows and the news. . . it was exhausting. Not to mention I had JUST reformatted my PC before the move so I literally had no games, etc. on it.

I danced this delicate dance with the Landlord(s) and AT&T, which was very annoying. It took AT&T 2 days to stop telling me my address doesn't exist even though they're the only company that services this apartment complex. Then we discovered that the previous tenant hadn't disconnected her internet (we couldn't steal it because DSL requires authentication). The Landlord called the tenant who then yelled to stop badgering her - that she's on her game, and that she disconnected/moved EVERYTHING! Yeah, sure, forget that I'm still returning your mail to the office, haha.

I'm going to save you from [the long version of] my rant about AT&T. Suffice to say, apparently they let you place orders on their site even when service is already connected at the address you're trying to order for. No phone agent in that company knows what they're doing and their website is so slow, unintuitive, and glitchy, that it's a nightmare to do anything on it. Finally, AT&T figures out what I want and we place an order. Whew, now we just have to wait 5 days for them to turn on the internet, for some reason.

Then the internet gets activated but I don't get my modem in the mail? Or the next day?? Chat support doesn't have any other template other than "please call Customer Service at _____". I've literally never had Chat resolve my issue, ever, though it would have been nice considering customer service is only open M-F 8-5, but I digress. It takes a 25 minutes phone call for Customer Service to tell me "well it usually takes 1-2 business days to get the package. If it's not there today, it should be there tomorrow". Barring the fact that I placed the order 5 days ago (meaning it should have been here forever ago), she couldn't give me a tracking number or even tell me what courier would be delivering the package ("Maybe USPS")? Holy crap.

We borrow a spare router that the Landlord had laying around in the apartment office and Chris calls AT&T's tech support to help get it activated. TECH SUPPORT tells Chris that UPS delivered our router SOMEWHERE the day before. He sends us a replacement (two of them, for some reason?).

Finally, we have internet. Now I just have to make sure I wasn't charged for 3 routers. All that trouble to finally get wonderful access to 6Mbps down / 512Kbps up.

tl;dr, I had the worst customer service experience with AT&T that I've ever had with any company in my life and I didn't even get a discount out of it. But now I have internet. I hope to be doing the drawls soon (especially considering I just finished a commission for my coworker, which is one thing off my plate that I wouldn't be streaming) and I hope to be posting and streaming! Then, we can finally finish Farscape (John, nooooooo. . .).

I was tagged and/or mentioned in a lot of memes while I was gone?! You know, I actually like memes so I plan on filling them out but I'll do one per journal entry. Today I'm doing one that I was mentioned in by Velkss and FimbuIvinter

Updates + Character Meme

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 11, 2015, 11:14 PM

shin's bowl

Note: Apparently dA inserts this giant empty space in my journal if you get here from your message center. Just refresh and it'll load properly. Not sure what causes that. . .

Hello, everyone! It's been a very long time since I've written a journal, as usual, so I figured I'd make an update. Now is as good a time as any, anyway. A lot has actually been happening to me recently but I fear it might be considered pretty boring for most people, haha.

I've been doing really well at work. We are actually in a lull period as far as actual work volume goes, but I still put in some overtime just organizing day-to-day for the team. Because of that, there are a few things that I wish could get done but I just don't have time to do them and I regret that. The only other thing work related is that we moved today to the main building "LC1" from "LC2" and we'll be sitting on the 2nd floor, right above the cafe. We'll be sitting right next to where I used to sit when I got my first job here at MS, so it's a bit nostalgic. It also helps that I already park in LC1 parking, haha.

Even more convenient is that Ryoseth-CP and I are moving into our new apartment on 6/20. We're super excited about it because we will now live literally across the street from work. The neighborhood is nicer, the apartment will be nicer, and we'll live next to a lot of really convenient stores as well as the Post Office I have my box at. When we move, I'll also get a gym membership and start swimming again! I've been gaining a bit of weight.

In other news. . .  I'm sorry to my recent commissioners ( OodlesofOwls, Takesu, Dragon-Lady-NFLD, Rare-Imaging, VolVokun, LamLArts, Vampyra-Drake ) for not mailing you the originals yet. I've been dealing with a bit of real life stuff lately - last Tuesday, I took my beloved Poo to the vet because she hadn't been eating. At the vet's recommendation, I had been administering her some antibiotics. They said she looked great physically and the antibiotics were a shot in the dark as to what was wrong with her. She showed improvement and ate on Thursday and Saturday.

Then, on Tuesday night, she was supposed to shed. Except she didn't feel like it. She had also passed some green diarrhea that night. I rushed her to the vet and dropped her off Wednesday morning. They said she still looked fine other than some lethargy and encouraged me to get a stool sample. I was worried and left work early Wednesday to pick her up from the vet and take her home. She died within about an hour. I took today off work to relax and spend some time mourning, I guess. Needless to say, I haven't been motivated to get to the post office. However, I should be able to mail your items on Saturday.

I guess that's it for now. I'll do this meme.

character meme

I was tagged by PrismatDragoon!

My characters

1. Name your main characters who you draw on dA
I have around one hundred characters, but I would say you probably see Ryu, Di, and Shinerai the most here on dA.

2. Do you have a sona? If so who?
Yes! I suppose I actually consider myself to have a "namesake" and a "sona". My namesake character is Shinerai and he moreso represents my account here on dA. I have a "sona" named Lhyz who represents me on a more personal level. Regretfully, I haven't drawn her much so if you don't know of her, don't feel bad.

3. Out of all your characters designs which one are you most proud of?
That is a really difficult question. I guess that since I'm in the middle of redesigning my byondi characters, I'd say Shinerai is the design I'm most proud/fond of. Even though I'm creating a new reference for Shin, it actually involves very few changes. I am probably the most content/pleased with Shinerai's design out of everyone.

4. Who would you say would be your most original character design?
I suppose I can't answer this one until I'm done designing my characters.

5. Who has been your longest lasting character?
Ryu is my oldest character to date. He first came around in 2003?

6. Who is your most unoriginal character and why?
It's very difficult for me to measure characters on level of originality/unoriginality. I'm not sure who my most unoriginal character would be.

7.Which character do you dislike the most?
I like all of my characters

8. Do you have any closed/open species?
I do have a few species - some of them are fauna of my world called Y'ren (previously called KyaRa). No one has asked me to make one, so I don't know how I feel about them being either open or closed. The main species I have is a humanoid species which is the primary intelligent lifeform on Y'ren and they are called byondi. They are closed simply because they are so complicated that it takes a lot of educating for someone to be able to make a canon character. I do have friends with some byondi.

9. Have any of your characters been inspired by another persons/films character?
Not consciously.

10. Who is your most high-powered character and lowest powered character?
Wow, I wonder if answering this question is going to give any spoilers. I'd say that among the weakest characters in my headworld are Kaio, Tauchke, and Azukai. Among the most powerful characters are Chinar, Ryu, Yoi, Yyuoe, and Di. However, each of them have their own handicaps.

Others characters

1. Name some of the most well known characters of other artists/friends to you
My memory is a little dead right now, so I'll just go to the next question, sorry.

2. List some of your most favourite characters of other artists
I don't keep favorites for very long due to how often I'm coming across new and beautiful character submissions. I'll add some thumbnails below of some favorite characters that belong to my friends as well as favorites I've added to collections recently.

3. Which of someone elses characters do you think is the most original?
I'm going to skip this question - I hope you don't mind that I'm not answering everything, I'm still a bit not all here. As a reference sheet collector, I come across lots and lots of characters and I personally think that so many of them are wonderful, great, and original. Again, I have difficulty measuring characters on levels of originality, so I'll just go to the next question.

4. List some of your favourite species of someone elses
As you probably know, I haven't been around deviantART a whole heck of a lot lately. Regretfully, I'm a bit of an inactive lurker and, tbh, I haven't really been following other peoples' species. I'm sure yours is wonderful though.

5. Which species of someone else's do you think is the most original?
I'm not going to answer any more of these 'original or unoriginal' questions.

6. Have you ever had a joint storyline with someone elses characters?
I suppose? Is this like if you have a character that is canon in someone else's headworld? If not, then no.

7. Do you have any characters of someone elses species?
Nailmus - one of kilara's Ilumarae
Ardrius one of kilara's Ilumarae
Ashteryx - one of kilara's Taleans
Tyndahll - one of Verlidaine/Caerulas's Zeytilli
Zeke - one of MoldyMuffinz's Plonar
Pai'te - one of AshasCadence's Nagendra
I don't think I have any more? I really love the characters I have but I feel bad making characters of other peoples' species unless they are just to die for because I have a hard time giving everyone the attention they deserve.

Oops, maybe I shouldn't have done this because it wasn't very exciting. Not tagging anyone!

Devious Journal Entry

Hello, everyone! Visiting my own page, I noticed that I haven't written a journal since December 3, holy crap. I figured I'd give an update, especially since I didn't tell everyone how my holidays were and didn't wish everyone else a happy holiday!

I'm sick, currently, but I'm hoping that today is the worst day and that tomorrow is the start of a downward slope toward recovery. I brought my laptop just in case I need to work from home tomorrow, though I don't want to. I've been working my ass off at the job because, as I mentioned before, the holidays are a very busy time for my line of business. However, my team has done really well and the holidays are almost over - I'm very excited for post-holiday and all the things we can do while, well, waiting for next holiday.

My actual holidays went well, too. I had a small Christmas celebration with my immediate family that was just swell. We had dinner (not too big but all of our favorite selections), watched game of thrones, and opened presents in between episodes. It was really great and we got to watch my parents watch the Red Wedding for the first time. . .

I'm very excited for some free time though and hope to pursue some new hobbies a little! I am putting on some weight so I intend to get a gym membership and start swimming again. It feels good to be in shape so I look forward to an overall increase in my happiness, health, an well-being. I also plan to get some personal art done this year and post it for all of you to see. I would probably post more art if I wasn't so shy with my sketches. I'm also pretty shy about showing my characters (the humanoid ones). But I'll have to get over this. . .

Speaking of art, you may recall that my last journal was a "Note me and get a card maybe if I can!" journal. I am very pleased to announce (which I'm sure all the recipients figure out by now), that I was able to send a card to EVERYONE. Even though I looked inactive, I worked my tail end off all month and I was able to create a card for every person. That is a total of 100 cards - and I was able to put a custom drawing in 20 of them (I posted the artwork for this already recently). I am very proud of myself for accomplishing that, but I'll definitely have to start earlier next time because I sure was tired staying up late to get those done. I also received mail from others and it was AWESOME! I hope to note the people soon that I haven't noted already.

Well, I guess that's about it for now! I'll try to post  a journal later. I'm pretty sure I originally had more to say but I wrote this once already and accidentally closed the tab before submitting it. Take care, everyone!

LOOK AT ALL THESE CARDS. The tall stack is US and the short stack is international. I hope everyone liked 'em!
