I've been working on this between other things for several several months now and finally finished it today.

:c Yeah I know what you're thinking "oh, he's changing Shinerai again!" You're right, I do change him pretty often. As beautiful as the last version of him was, it was too. . . pretty. I was too caught up in trying to make him different that I forgot who he was. He wasn't shinerai anymore, he was way too Regal to be a thief and way too suave looking to be a silly prankster like he's supposed to be. Since I changed his humanoid form also, I traced (lol) it onto this ref too. . .

Anyway, for those who have been watching me for a very long time, you will notice I've found a median between old and new shin c: I've taken old!shin's bodytype and general markings but gave him new!shin's fluffy chest, limbs, and feathery tail. Of course his ears are still as long as ever.

I merged the body gradient, making him dark toward the back and light toward the front like new!shin, but darker on the shoulders and lighter on the belly like old!shin. I took old!shin's colors but made them more vibrant with gradiating markings like new!shin.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I also finally found a wing design I like colorwise c:

I hope this will be the very last reference of Shinerai. I'm so perfectly content with him finally.

2600px under DL. Sorry FV wouldn't let me make it bigger than 1600.

Ah, I make typoes on everything I touch, so dont bother telling me about them because I dont care enough to fix them~ thxx. also put # in your comment if you actually read the sheet. >XD i'm curious.

# I adore this reference sheet! Not only is Shin gorgeous in design, but the sheet itself has a neat aesthetic. Splendid! May I ask what program you used?
Shin's, erm, humanoid form reminds me of an elf. Not sure if that's intended or not.

Thank you very much for the compliments, and for reading the information cx I used Photoshop 7 for this one, I think!
It wasn't intended for him to look like an elf, but anything with pointy ears tends to strike that resemblance. It's not something that bothers me so it doesn't matter xD

I think the hairstyle reminded me of the elves from World of Warcraft too... it's odd how that happens :D
As a huge dragon nerd myself, you're a big source of inspiration. I want to ask permission to use some of your art (especially Shin) as reference to improve at drawing my own characters. I won't copy your style, characters, colour schemes or anything, but I'm not that good with anatomy for large creatures and I need some reference for how to draw wings, feathers, markings and such. I hope you don't mind. ^^

Hey that might be it :)
I don't mind if you use my artwork to reference, just realize that my artwork is my interpretation of how to define shape and form with line and anyone else's interpretation may be different so really it's best to reference life. But if you wanna use my work to augment that, it's fine :)

I'm a bit short on real life dragon wing references *derp*, but I appreciate your advice. Thanks!

People take "Real life" way too literally. Sure, there may not be a dragon wing reference; but all wings are almost exactly like regular human arms. I'm sure you have plenty of references of regular human arms. There are plenty of skeletons to look at and plenty of muscles that actually perform the function of moving that limb. And you can apply this function/form to fantastical anatomy like dragons if you use your imagination. I didn't have any real dragons to reference either, but I use sources like this one and took Anatomy/Physiology courses at a nursing college.

Every artist's work is their blood and labor spent learning that material, understanding that material, and then conveying it with their own imagination using line, color, and shadow. Referencing another person's artwork is a fantastic way to spark your own creativity, to learn new techniques, and to inspire yourself. But using it and only it as a reference without augmenting it with real life is just as good as being that one person you have do to a group project with in high school that contributes nothing but then accepts the grade for everyone else's teamwork.

I didn't mean to offend you. That remark about "real life" was a joke. Of course I will explore many different sources to improve my artwork; I meant no disrespect or disdain towards your work and efforts and I do not in any way mean to use it as a shortcut.
I only meant to say that you are a great source of inspiration for me. I acknowledge the time and hard work that went into your artwork and the last thing I want is to dismiss its value by copying it.

You did not offend me, lol. I'm honored that you enjoy my work enough to appreciate it as learning material. And, like I said, you're more than welcome to reference my work. Just trying to give some hard-felt advice, yanno. I hope you did not take offense to my sternness. I just wanted to make sure that you are not doing yourself an injustice by closing off what could really be the most valuable resources to you.
