So I hink this is my fourth Shinerai run animation. I was kinda doing them a year apart, but then I kinda failed and didn't do one for a while. Due to the loss of several hours of work on a commission, I haven't been entirely motivated to draw a real piece and saw a redline I did of a friend's run animation a while ago in my Photobucket. I decided why not make a new run for Shinerai, then!

I don't know what it is with me and run animations, but they're fun c: It's a shame I didn't finish my zyxmet one. I'm not overly concerned with how small the image is since this is technically a WIP. I hope to EVENTUALLY Detail it a little more and color it. But for now I'm pretty tired of drawing the same thing over and over again so I doubt it'll happen soon.

anyway, Shinerai are belong to me. downloading wont make it bigger.

[EDIT] I guess explanation on the way I drew it. There are several different types of runs in the real world, I chose this type of run since I imagine Shinerai to be more of a bounder than a galloper. He's got some pretty long back legs so I figure a lot of the power from his run comes from those throwing him forward, so I wanted a good amount of air-time though I think it could have used another frame. All and all this animation is pretty slow and 4-5 frames more than I usually do for a run cycle, but I liked it and didn't really want to do the tweening I'd need to if I deleted a frame. So there.

Oh geez, now I have to write this all over again due to a stupid computer. B|

I would first off like to say that I've always enjoyed watching these run animations that you do; it shows your deep understanding of the anatomy of your characters.

The tail motion here is very smooth, not too floppy. I also love how it's somewhat stiffened, like a raptor's, perfect for running and balance.

I'm impressed by how you even went as far as to rethink his running motion because of his back legs. Another success for character depth and design.

As I'm looking at this, I think the only negative I see are the feathers on the back. For some reason they seem a little awkward in terms of their placement, making the body appear too thin at some points, mostly when they frill up.
But maybe that's just me. c:

First of all, I think this is really quite well done, especially with the textured gradient background and the colour. The fact that you chose to animate such a detailed and very technical character design is very admirable, especially with all the feathers. The volumes are consistant, the action is lovely, but as somebody trained in animation I can definately see a few things that could be improved. For starters, the animation looks too slow for a gallop cycle. This looks like it was animated on 2s and to really look like the critter's moving fast, it should be on 1s. Depending on your animation program, this should be extremely easy to fix, whether by simply lessening the time each frame is shown, or deleting a few of the inbetweens. (The speed of the framerate you used here would make more sense for a walk or slow trot cycle.)

Overall, the animation is nice and smooth, very enjoyable and masterfully created. The only problem is that the timing is really off and that I can spot a few clicks in the feathers over the haunches. :) (Which you're likely aware of I'm sure!) It looks really nice though! :D

For vision, I rate you four and a half - this character design is really technical for animation, yet you really pulled off your vision of making it move. Trust me when I say that most animators would not even touch this character design for its intricate qualities, so bravo!

For originality, I rate you two and a half - run cycles are never a very original subject matter as everyone does them, though this is undoubtably very cool to look at! :) Make the character do some stuff other than run or walk and I'd give you full points, but for a run cycle I'm not gonna. ;)

Technique - four stars for the animation, but a star off for the wonky timing - he looks like he's running in slow motion! :D

Impact - again, this is just a run cycle, no matter how pretty it is (and it really is!) so three stars. ;)

Thank you so much for the compliments! I'm glad you like this c: I'd love to do another one some time. I apologize, however, I'm not sure of the timeframe this took to complete! :c
