Alright, another one of these done >8D I was depressed that when i started shading this one, I accidentally sliced through it with an x-acto knife so I had to start over. It didn't take long though. The people in Ustream got to watch all of this one as well and we had fun even though i had to bbl to go eat any whatnot.

it's a little rotated in the wrong direction but oh well. Things i learned:

-dont try to cut out antennas.
-shading green with gray is nice
-put patterns on before you start shading. it makes them fade out in the shadow and it's lovely
-dont randomly cut through your picture with knives.
-cutting a little bit outside your lines is better than trying to cut on them exactly.

well that's it.
Kraine belongs to :iconowlheart: who i gave this commission for free because she's so sweeeeet and bought me a subby in the past. C: <3333 thank you so much, beb.

art is mien!

Haha. Well at this point, i do these different pretty much every time. Sometimes I use ballpoint pen, sometimes I use white gouache as well. It just depends. It's been about a year since i've made one, so I'll need to make another before attempting a tutorial ;D i'll put it on my to-do's though

It's pretty much like watecolors except their opaque :D So you could paint in white on black if you wanted to, but they pretty much behave just like watercolors. Hey are you busy indigo? c: I'm thinking of streaming.

I love everything about this one. The color contrasts, it looks just right on the character, and the character is so darn adorable!

shading with gray on green? I'll have to try that.

Cute character!! Atleast the second time around was easier and faster than the first. XD

Good things for anyone doing traditional art to learn! I should try the designs-before-shading trick sometime with copics. I wonder if the difference would show all that much?

i dunno! but i learned that when you do the designs first, the shading kinda blurs them (idk if it says this in the desc) so they're much more muted in the shadows which is. . . nice C:

I've been curious about this for awhile... but what tools do you use to make these? like what do you use for the line art, and what do you use to color/shade? I really want to color and shade as amazing as you, and i know the first step is getting the tools...

It's drawn on 110lb white cardstock. C: i use a 005 sakura micron for the inking, and copic sketch markers for the coloring and shading. some additional shading is added with a white prismacolor pencil, a regular .5 mechanical pencil, and a gellyroll white gell pen. it's then cut out with an x-acto knife i bought at wal-mart and glued to 110lb black cardstock backing.

hope that helped!

omgsh! thank you! this definidently helped quite a bit, I had never even thought about the idea of using a mechanical pencil for shading lol xD and I'll definidently have to get one of those micon pens along with the pencils and gel pen....

honestly, I've REALLY admired your work, i just wish i had your talent... cause i know that's what it really comes down to anyways...

oh and btw, I have a question.. i have a set of prismacolor markers already... are those much different from the sketch markers? (basically, I'm asking what's the difference between sketch markers and normal markers)

thanks for the help!!!

Sorry, I've only used one type of marker. :'D I've never used prismas. And there are many types of Copic markers. There are Copic Originals, Copic Sketch, Copic Wide, and Copic Ciao markers. I've only used the Copic Sketch markers, but i know they're different from the originals by having the 'super brush' nib, which is really nice. Sorry I can't tell you more 3:

hmm ok, well thanks for the info! I'll have to look into those... that super brush nib seems interesting.. i wish i hadn't already spent like a fortune on my current markers lol xD but whatever... I'll live....

thanks for the help! i actually already went out and got that white gel pen, the micron pen, and a colorless blender... (i think it might help make something similar to the brush nib...)

Beautiful! I enjoy seeing these commissions. These also help me when you post the "thing I learned" segment because I am trying to get a hang of markers. Do you use Copic or Prismacolor? Also, I wish I could have seen this on ustream, do you usually stream on there at a certain time?
