Another of those sketch commissions! This one is for *tWistedscissors of their character named Kittashe. I have to say, this is one very unique character and she was a whole lot of fun to draw. Time for work!
One thing I just can't wrap my mind around is the back fins continuing down the tail, or at least I think one of them continues but the back one stops or converges...? The face is really cool, I like the sloping/pointed snout. I also like the spiky butt XD. And of course your usual mastery of feet and scales and teeth and poses and overall everything is just ahhhhhhhhh love <3.
Aahhhhhhhhhhh I see it now ! You totally did it right, and my brain just wasn't processing it. I blame work. I love my job, but full-time is mentally draining. (Although Memorial Day yesterday went a long way towards recharging .) I didn't even notice the little nub there depicting that hidden fin where the small spines are.
I think what confused me at first was the far fin seems to have one less "large" spine than the near one (I'm assuming it's foreshortened out of view and my brain can't make sense of it yet), and that combined with the line of scales on the tail there twisting in a way that sort of makes it look like they're dorsal when they're really not.
Man I hope my replies make sense. I'd write more but this message alone took a while just to compose, and it's late already .
I've got an office job so I'm 8:30-5 every weekday with weekends off, but it's a 40 minute drive one way so that adds up to like 10 hours away from home. Between daily life things, some nights I don't even open my laptop. I'm still making some art progress, at least. Slowly getting through my trades, and then I'll get to draw Shinerai .
Haha sometimes I feel like my sentences come out as run-ons. Don't be silly, you've already done quite an amazing job! It's hard to depict a form with just lineart (I know, we had to draw a bicycle in drawing class using just contours v_v), and I'm sure my tired brain would have grasped it better had the commissioner requested shading.
wow that sounds like the kind of job I've always wanted <3 It's the same drive for me to go to college, so that has never really bothered me Well, until I had to afford gas, but you probably get paid more than me so I bet it's okay xD
I love my job and I feel so fortunate to have it! I think it's a good starting salary for a recent(ish) grad like me . I get about 2k a month after taxes, but my credit card bill these past few times takes at least half of that, dang car insurance junk and whatnot :I. The rest goes straight into rebuilding my savings, since I still gotta pay my parents back for my car.
Office jobs are alright. Personally, I'd love to be in an office like 2 days a week and work from home the rest of the time .
Now this looks like more along the lines of a standard dragon, plated not furry, wing membrane not feathered, and spines like a ridged back. I think the ideal of a dog collar on a dragon is different though, and an over sized one at that, looks like a type of bling. This might however might explain the reason for the dragons temperamental angered look, as if I were a dragon, I would not like wearing an such device myself; still a nicely dine red outlined simple background image.
Thank you very much for your compliments and your insight ;D I liked this dragon too. It was a very interesting character to draw because it was so unusual to me (as you mention no feathers or fur) but it was a pleasure. She could appear angry just because she's a relatively angry and aggressive creature xD Maybe the collar is required to keep her under control sometimes. Even if it is oversized, it may still be functional, as it wouldn't be so easy to get over those horns on her head.
THE SCALES. HOW DO YOU MAKE SCALES SO AMAZING? Like seriously, do you reference reptiles? Just know where they go? This is beautiful as usual Shin. :'D I love your line work with all the tapering little dots. <3
I know, I'm really excited about it!! No, I don't really reference anything for scales. Once you get in your mind how you like to do them, it's pretty easy to draw them All you gotta make sure is that all the scales that are lined up also have corners and centers that line up c:
My parents are technophobic... I have no problem paying you actual money because your art is absolutely damn worth it; but yeah Maybe one day. Lol Aus-Dollars Come in handy if you ever visit the Land Down Under
Awe, sad times! That's okay, at least it helps them stay safe from all the dangers that could befall a technologically unaware person. And yeah I'll totally visit Australia one day. And have $25 to spend there xDD
You're providing the sexy art so quickly, oh mai jesus! I can never get over your crisp lining in all your work. You define every detail so well and keep amazing poses flawlessly in perfection. You've done an outstanding job with this ;D
